Shirley L. Summerville Williams

Shirley L. Summerville Williams, 82, of Erie, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Elmwood Gardens Nursing Home following an extended illness.

She was born September 28, 1935 in Rimbersburg, PA, a daughter of the late William and Margretta Stanford. She had lived in Erie most of her life.

Shirley was a food service supervisor for Erie City Mission for thirteen years. She was a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital for 42 years. She had received the Legion of Honor Award of the Four Chaplains. She was a member of Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church. Her greatest joy in life was her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Orval Williams and her brother Gene Summerville.

She is survived by one daughter Cathy Durst (John), and one son, Brian Williams (Cassandra), of Erie. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Melissa Liggett (Tony), Andrew Durst (Amanda), Kelsey Trayer (Aaron), Elizabeth Williams and Kaitlyn Williams; and two great-grandchildren, John and Olivia Liggett; and good friend Elva and loving cousin Bruceen.

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street on Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service at Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2816 Elmwood Ave. on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
