Thomas A. Joifrita

Thomas A. "Tom" Joifrita, 73, of Erie, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 at the VA Medical Center. He was born December 18, 1942 in Erie a son of the late Frank and Bessie Calco Joifrita.

Tom graduated from Strong Vincent High School and proudly served in the United States Army as a medic during the Vietnam War. He worked and retired from STERIS after 38 years.

He coached Boys Baseball for several years and was a member of AMSCO Runners Club and Sunflower Club. He was a lifelong Cleveland Browns, Indians, Cavaliers and Ohio State fan.

Tom was a passionate and proud family man and a loyal and generous friend.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Carmen Joifrita and a sister, Betty Benyon.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Burdick Joifrita of Erie; two sons, Aaron Thomas Joifrita and his wife Crystal of St. Louis, MO and Matthew Michael Joifrita of Erie; one sister, Jean Resh of Akron, OH; and two grandchildren, Luca and Dylan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Service there on Saturday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the DAV, 135 East 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
