Thomas Gorbatoff
Thomas Gorbatoff, 88, of Erie, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born July 29, 1932 in Erie, a son of the late Onisefor and Christine Bashlominoff Gorbatoff.
Tom was a graduate of East High School where he excelled at Water Polo and held several championship records. He went to General Motors Institute and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked at Kaiser Aluminum and then at AMSCO as the Director of Quality Control.
Tom enjoyed sailing with his friend Andy Lawlor, golfing, swimming, bocce, reading and attending the opera and ballet performances at Mercyhurst University. He was a past President and member of the Cotillion Dance Club with his wife Julia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy Gorbatoff; four brothers, Joseph, Tim, Frank, and George Orloff; and two sisters, Jennie Wassil and Frances Gorbatoff.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Julia Berarducci Gorbatoff; three sons, Thomas O. Gorbatoff, Timothy Gorbatoff and wife Andee, and Christopher Gorbatoff and wife Tina; one daughter, Susan Sorce; seven grandchildren, Tyler Sorce, Rachel Sorce, Christopher Gorbatoff (Abby), Anna Gorbatoff, Gray Gorbatoff, Bennett Gorbatoff, and Sophie Gorbatoff; and his sister, Catherine (Kaya) Wassell and her son Mark and his family. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday at Saint George Church, 5145 Peach Street, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
