Violet E. Popoff Sala

Violet E. Popoff Sala, 80, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV. She was born October 13, 1936 in Cassville, WV, a daughter of the late Evan and Agnes Talkish Popoff.

Violet was a graduate of East High School Class of 1956, where she excelled at ballet and synchronized swimming. She was a lifelong "Hockey Mom" enthusiastically supporting both her sons and grandsons and could often be found in the stands with her cowbell cheering them on.

Violet was a longtime member of Lawrence Park Golf Club. She was past Club Champion in her golf league and had a hole-in-one in 1994. In her later years, along with her husband Tony, she was very involved in Ballroom Dancing and Argentine Tango and traveled numerous times to Argentina.

She volunteered at Emmaus Soup Kitchen.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Anthony "Tony" D. Sala; and her half sister, Frances Adams.

She is survived by her four sons, Dr. Nicholas Sala and wife Lori, Dr. Anthony Sala and wife Kari, John Sala, Erie School Teacher and wife Tobi and Dr. Michael Sala and wife Barbara; one brother, Anthony Popoff and wife Joan; one sister, Martha Burlingame and husband (Gerald) all of Erie; and nine grandchildren, Allyson, Nick Jr., Alexa, Amelia, Morgan, Jacob, Abby, Joseph and Evan. She is also survived by her uncle, Charles Talkish of Erie and many nieces and nephews.

Violet's family would like to thank her caregivers Jeannie Espinosa, Aviana Wykoff, and Kim Jaskiewicz for the exceptional attention they gave to her.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Mass on Friday at Saint Paul RC Church, 1617 Walnut Street, at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Emmaus Ministries, 345 East 9th Street, Erie, PA 16503.
