Virginia L."Poncie" Ponsford

Virginia L."Poncie" Ponsford, age 85, formerly of St. Joseph Apartments, where she had been a resident for 20 years, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at Edinboro Manor following an extended illness.

She was born, July 26, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter of the late Mary R. Maurer Ponsford, and Thomas J. Ponsford, Sr. She was a graduate of Linesville High School Class of 1944.

Virginia lived in Erie most of her life and had worked at Erie Resistor, Marx Toy Company and had retired from General Electric in 1987. She loved doing crafts and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas J. Ponsford, Jr., and Douglas C. Ponsford.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen A. Orlando (Michael) of McKean, PA, two sons, John T. Ponsford (Marilyn Mannarino) of Fairview, PA,and John C. Comstock (Susan), of Erie,PA; three grandchildren, John Orlando (Michele), Robert Orlando (Debbie), and Christopher Orlando (Leigh), all of Erie; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Kailey, Michael, Zachary and Ella Orlando; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ponsford of Erie, and Betty Ponsford of St. David, AZ. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, Inc., 2122 Raspberry Street, on Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, 8880 West Main Road, McKean, PA, on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
